Pick up from your hotel at 7-7.30 am (subject to the hotel location, time may vary). Depart from the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, and drive down the escarpment via the floor of the scenic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara for check in at the camp for lunch. After an early breakfast, head out for a full day of game drives taking us in search of Africa’s Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. The Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets well worth capturing on camera. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara, you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, wildebeests, elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common. The ultimate action here is without doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July through October when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of greener grass. After breakfast, you will have a guided drive through the scenic Hell’s Gate National Park. The park has spectacular scenery including water-gouged gorges, towering cliffs, scrub-clad volcanoes, stark rock towers, and belching plumes of geothermal steam making it one of the most atmospheric parks in Africa. It is the only park where visitors are permitted to walking and cycling safaris amongst the wildlife. The park has over 100 bird species including vultures, Verreaux’s eagles, Augur buzzards, and swifts. African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson’s gazelle, and baboon are also common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chandler’s mountain reedbuck. You will have a hot or picnic lunch before you drive back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
